My story: When I was little, my grandma crocheted afghans for my sister and I. She used scrap yarn from her projects (slippers, hats, Christmas stockings, dish towels) to put these together. I fondly remember all the stripes of color and poking my fingers through the tiny holes. We called them our ‘coat of many colors’ blankets, based on the story of Joseph's coat of many colors.

I recently started crocheting myself and have loved making blankets for my family. I crochet at the end of almost every day to settle down for the day. It’s a calming peaceful activity that helps keep my anxiety in check, and brings me joy. However, I don’t need 100 afghans in our home... and I also don’t want to make them as orders/business. That’s not what this is about. It’s about self care and sharing joy and giving back. In whatever ways we can.

An idea popped into my head, and the next morning, listening to Dolly Parton’s Christmas album on Spotify, a song that I’d never heard came on and I knew then that this project had just begun. Dolly’s song... “Coat of Many Colors”.

Every time I finish an afghan, I’ll be raffling it off. Each time, 100% of the proceeds will go to a selected organization/charity.
